Movie Review: Ong- Bak

Ong- Bak was a Thai movie directed by Prachya Pinkaew and starred by Tony Jaa. The story of Ong- bak was begins when the head of Ong-Bak, the sacred Buddha of a poor village is stolen, the population is plunged into misery. The Buddha was the focal point of an anniversary vigil believed to bring rain to the drought-stricken area. Young Ting is selected by the villagers to travel to Bangkok and rescue the relic in time for their ceremony. Ting has an affinity with the statue as he was left on the temple steps as a baby and raised by monks, who taught him muay thai, but forbade him to use it in combat. But now he is forced to delve into a seedy underworld and try to avoid temptation.

I know it is really late to make a review for Ong-Bak but I still did this because I want to showcase the culture of the Thai people. Though I am a Filipino, I came to interest in their culture because mainly of the moves shown by the star of the movie which was so marvelous when he does those acrobatic moves. And also for its sequel: Ong-bak 2. It has no relation to its latter but it still features Tony Jaa but the setting of the story is in the past when Asia is still growing and somewhat undiscovered. Muay Thai isn't the only martial arts featured in this film but also includes the martial arts of China and the way of the bushido by Japan. So better get excited when Ong-Bak 2 comes to a theater near you!
